Herman Dune, Dope, Haschish, Bong – Ah hears strange moosic

Herman Dune (bis 2006: Herman Düne) sind eine französische Indiepopband, gegründet 1999. Herman Dune werden den Genres Anti-Folk, Lo-Fi oder auch Folk zugeordnet. Die Band wird oft für eine schwedische Band gehalten, die Mutter ist Schwedin – die Band jedoch französisch.

A Decade Ago, songwriter and vocalist David-Ivar Herman Dune and drummer Cosmic Neman let go of their secular life and created the band Herman Dune.

Out of Paris, all across Europe and all the way to New York City, they gained a formidable Cult Status with the help of UK DJ John Peel. John Peel picked them as one of his favorite spins and invited them to many of his glorious Peel Sessions (more than 10) that really radiated and allowed Herman Dune to perform all over the world.

André Herman Düne, der seit 2003 in Berlin wohnt, veröffentlichte mehrere Dutzend CDs unter seinem eigenen sowie diversen Künstlernamen wie John Trawling, Klaus Bong, Ben Dope, Ben Haschish, Fast Ganz, The Fountain Boats, Kreuzberg Museum und Stanley Brinks. Oft beinhalten diese CDs Gastauftritte befreundeter Musiker meist aus dem Antifolk-Umfeld, z.B. Turner Cody, Rachel Lipson und Julie Doiron. Letztere ist auch auf der 2005 erschienenen CD Not On Top zu hören. Diese sind auf seinem eigenen Label RADBAB Records erschienen und werden auf den Konzerten oder per Mailorder verkauft. Stanley Brinks ist sein aktueller Name, den er nach dem Abschied bei Herman Dune gewählt hat. Es gab Probleme mit dem Label EMI, was den Namen anging, und deshalb verwandelte sich André Herman Düne in Stanley Brinks.

Das zehnte Album

„Ah hears strange moosic“ – so der Titeltrack von „Stange Moosic“, Herman Dunes zehntem Album. Erzählt wird die Geschichte eines ausgedienten Spions, der seine Tage in einem Hotel verbringt. Total verrückt? Nein, einfach nur Herman Dune (früher auch Herman Düne)!

Mit Wortwitz, verschrobenen Geschichten und einer gewaltigen Portion Charme versammeln die Franzosen seit mehr als zehn Jahren eine wachsende Anhängerschaft hinter sich. Die Band lädt zum genauen Hinhören ein. Denn Indie-Pop-Bands, die sich gerne mal im Folk und Country bedienen, sind wirklich nichts Neues.

Parallelen zu Bob Dylan

Was Herman Dune besonders macht, sind ihre Geschichten, ebenso kreativ wie absurd. Das Repertoire schier unbegrenzt. Egal ob alternde Geheimagenten, freudig-tierische Roadtrips wie auf „Next Year In Zion“ oder leichte Melancholie in Liebesliedern, jeder Geschmack wird hier abgedeckt. Parallelen zum Urgestein Bob Dylan werden gezogen, ebenso zu Anti-Folk-Helden wie Adam Green. Nach ihren amerikanischen Vorbildern klingen Herman Dune ohnehin von Platte zu Platte mehr. Bei „Strange Moosic“ nicht grundlos.

Einen Rückschlag musste Herman Dune vor Jahren verkraften. Sänger und Gitarrist André Herman Düne verlässt das Trio, seitdem sind David-Ivar Herman Düne und Neman Herman Düne nur noch als Duo unterwegs. Geschadet hat das Herman Dune, wie ihre Platte „Strange Moosic“ beweist, nicht.
